Airstream Maintenance and Upgrades at Airstream Nuts and Bolts

In late February 2024 we headed north from Florida to Dadeville, AL for what was potentially a few days at Airstream Nuts and Bolts. We had a list of upgrades and maintenance items for Ronnie while we stayed in his Airbnb apartment. His new shop is well appointed for Airstream work and this guy knows his stuff!

Our to-do list included:

  • Replace the existing converter with a Progressive Dynamics 9360 model. I supplied the new converter and kept the old one as a back-up. The old one worked (a WFCO auto-detect model), but would never switch to lithium mode, so I gave up on it. The new one is working great so far.
  • Clean up the stock wiring mess under the sofa and secure the wiring and components. Ronnie mounted several loose items, significantly cleaned up the wiring and the whole space is more organized and secure.
  • Clean up & secure the stock wiring mess under the rear dinette seat – there wasn’t much that could be done here because of all the Czone equipment.
  • Install an IRVWPC water pump controller (I supplied the unit and install kit) on the water pump. This is a great upgrade – smoothes out the water pulsing and greatly reduced the water pump and pipe noise.
  • Check the brakes and wheel bearings on each of the four hubs – rotate the tires as part of the process.
  • Install Airkrafters erPODs, replacing eight of the stock AC ceiling vents. We changed four in the living area and four in the bedroom, leaving the stock vent in the head. They are a significant improvement in increased airflow and noise reduction. Expensive, but worth it.

Ronnie and Tera were gracious hosts. The apartment over the detached garage at their home was huge and comfortable and best of all, he got everything done in one day!
